With this release, all five Shantae titles ( Shantae, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens) are available on Switch, marking the first time the entire 3-million-plus-selling series has been offered on a single game system. The Switch version preserves the graphics, sound, and gameplay of the game’s initial release, while adding modern features such as save states and multiple display options. The game is considered a cult classic with favorable reviews from retro gamers despite it appearing on the GBC a year after the Game Boy Advance was released.WayForward‘s iconic hair-whipping, shape-changing, fun-loving Half Genie’s debut GBC game can now be played on the Nintendo Switch with the release of Shantae’s eponymous first title. Shantae would be able to learn multiple dances and obtain items to boost her strength before having her showdown with Risky Boots. As a first in the series, players would delve into the adventures of Shantae, the female half-genie, who would explore Sequin Land to save the world against the megalomaniac pirate Risky Boots. The side-scrolling platformer from WayForward and Capcom hit the Game Boy Color in 2002 and was one of the last GBC titles. Copies that have been opened but complete in box come in at around $4,000 and sealed and graded copies are sitting at an unbelievable $10,000 that would put Little Samson to shame. A valid copy of the game cannot be found for a price lower than $500 on eBay, cartridge only. The game failed to sell well back in the early noughties, but the 2D platformer was pegged as one of the best in its genre and evolved to become somewhat of a classic. Beside its GBC original, the Switch is the perfect platform to house this retro platformer that fans are over the mood about receiving to indulge in this touch of nostalgia from their childhood. WayForward has also announced that Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut will be released physically and digitally on the Switch and Xbox One that was brought into the mix by popular demand.
The Switch release is expected to include all five Shantae games including Shantae, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens.

Shantae has been the company's latest surprise that will be sold as a reproduction cartridge and will be available for pre-order this September. The American game distributor Limited Run Games has been responsible for releasing many beloved digital games in a physical form, much to the delight of game collectors. Shantae is also getting a physical and digital release on the Switch some time this fall. Fans can rejoice that their favorite genie with a whip, Shantae, is returning to her home on the Game Boy Color thanks to a ported cartridge release from Limited Run Games.
